{"id":725,"date":"2023-11-29T02:01:18","date_gmt":"2023-11-29T07:01:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.atlantisplumbing.com\/articles\/?p=725"},"modified":"2024-01-01T11:52:58","modified_gmt":"2024-01-01T16:52:58","slug":"how-do-i-know-if-my-water-is-contaminated","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.atlantisplumbing.com\/articles\/how-do-i-know-if-my-water-is-contaminated\/","title":{"rendered":"How Do I Know If My Water Is Contaminated?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Testing your water for contaminants is the best way to identify if there are any issues but there are also some &#8220;clues&#8221; that you can follow as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>You notice an unusual or nasty taste or smell in your water (oftentimes a metallic or fishy taste or smell)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You smell chlorine or sulfer in your water<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Your home made baked goods are not rising as well as they used to.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Your water pressure is lower than it has been.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Your water is cloudy or foamy.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You notice particles or dirt in your water.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Your glassware comes out of the dishwasher with spots or scales.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Water Testing Kits<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you want to test your own water then we would recommend that you look at some of the commercially available water testing kits. You can use these to occasionally test your water to ensure that it&#8217;s meeting your standards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You can purchase many of these kits from your local hardware store or online at Amazon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are also water pitchers with excellent filters like ZeroWater &#8211; and it also comes with a water quality meter as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Georgia&#8217;s Tap Water Database<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Environmental Working Group (EWG) has put together a list of water utilities in each state broken down by counties. You can&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ewg.org\/tapwater\/search-results.php?stab=GA&amp;searchtype=largesys\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">click here to view the list for Georgia counties<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By clicking on your specific county you will then be given the total number of contaminants in your water supply that were last reported.
