{"id":349,"date":"2023-11-21T01:46:22","date_gmt":"2023-11-21T06:46:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.atlantisplumbing.com\/articles\/?p=349"},"modified":"2024-01-01T13:04:00","modified_gmt":"2024-01-01T18:04:00","slug":"why-does-flushing-the-toilet-make-the-shower-cold","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.atlantisplumbing.com\/articles\/why-does-flushing-the-toilet-make-the-shower-cold\/","title":{"rendered":"Why Does Flushing The Toilet Make The Shower Water Cold?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Hopefully, you have not experienced a sudden cold shower just because someone came in and flushed the toilet in your bathroom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But if you have &#8211; you know it&#8217;s not an experience you would wish to repeat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So, what causes this and what can you do about it?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The answer is typically old shower valves and\/or poor plumbing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Is It The Shower Valve?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>A shower valve works in the following manner:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Water pressure changes in the hot \/ cold water supply line<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>This causes a piston to open or close a small port so that the water pressure remains balanced<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The balanced water pressure keeps the water flowing at the temperature you set<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If there&#8217;s a problem with the shower valve and it&#8217;s piston &#8211; then your water temperature will fluctuate<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>If your valve in the shower has worn out or is defective, when the water pressure in your water line changes due to a toilet being flushed, the water coming out of your shower head will fluctuate and get either colder or hotter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Know that it doesn&#8217;t have to necessarily or always be a result of the toilet flushing.
