{"id":211,"date":"2023-11-20T01:39:58","date_gmt":"2023-11-20T06:39:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.atlantisplumbing.com\/articles\/?p=211"},"modified":"2024-01-01T12:09:06","modified_gmt":"2024-01-01T17:09:06","slug":"how-to-clean-grease-trap","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.atlantisplumbing.com\/articles\/how-to-clean-grease-trap\/","title":{"rendered":"How To Clean A Grease Trap"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>If you&#8217;ve ever watched episodes of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/user\/KitchenNightmares\">Kitchen Nightmare with Chef Gordon Ramsay<\/a>&nbsp;then you&#8217;ve probably seen him discover a neglected, dirty grease trap in the restaurant&#8217;s kitchen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If these traps are not maintained properly, the consequences can be:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Blockages in your pipelines<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Backup of grease in your sink drains<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Offensive Odors<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Any of these situations can be costly to a restaurant as they can cause you to close shop for a day or longer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bottom line is &#8211; It&#8217;s simply not worth it to put off cleaning and maintaining your grease trap.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">So, How Do You Clean A Grease Trap?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>We know that cleaning out a grease trap is considered to be the worst job to do in a restaurant. It&#8217;s disgusting, messy and smelly. But &#8211; it has to be done.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Following are the easy steps you should be taking to clean your grease trap.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Wear Yellow Rubber Gloves to perform this task<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Remove the lid from the unit &#8211; usually a screwdriver can be used to pop the lid off<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Scoop out the top layer (which can be thick) of grease and fats and other debris with a bucket and dump this in a thick plastic garbage bag.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Use a Shop Vac to drain the remaining liquid out of the grease trap unit.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Discard the liquid in the Shop Vac in a thick plastic garbage bag.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Once the grease trap is empty, clean it out with fresh, soapy water.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>After it&#8217;s been thoroughly cleaned, begin filling the grease trap with hot sanitized water (chlorine concentration).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>That&#8217;s it!<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>If you&#8217;ve ever watched episodes of&nbsp;Kitchen Nightmare with Chef Gordon Ramsay&nbsp;then you&#8217;ve probably seen him discover a neglected, dirty grease trap in the restaurant&#8217;s kitchen.
