In this article, our experts at Atlantis Plumbing will go through each one to help you identify and possibly fix the problem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>First and Foremost &#8211; NEVER, EVER put your hand down a disposal.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The 3 Main Reasons Your Garbage Disposal May Not Work Properly<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Power problem<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Something is stuck in the disposal<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Disposal drains slowly<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Power Problems<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>You&#8217;ve heard the old adage, &#8220;When in doubt, reboot.&#8221; Well, the same holds true for any appliance or piece of equipment that is plugged in. You can check that power is getting to the garbage disposal several ways.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Check your breaker box to make sure that the breaker to the garbage disposal has not been tripped.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Check the plug from the garbage disposal &#8211; while shuffling items under the sink it&#8217;s easy enough to unplug that.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Press the reset button on your garbage disposal.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Instructions On How To Reset Your Garbage Disposal<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Turn your disposal switch to &#8220;Off&#8221;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Find and press the red button on your garbage disposal. It should not pop back out. If it does, wait 10-15 minutes and then try pressing it again.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Turn on your kitchen faucet using cold water.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Turn your disposal switch to &#8220;On&#8221;.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A Clog In The Disposal<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the most common calls we get is to unclog a garbage disposal. The clog is not so terrible that it stops the disposal from working but it&#8217;s bad enough that it&#8217;s slowing down the amount of debris and water that should be going through the unit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The clog could be on the blades or in the drain pipe. If you are handy enough you can dis-assemble the unit and check the blades.
