Make sure to read it. If you don&#8217;t have such a sticker &#8211; call us at Atlantis Plumbing and we&#8217;ll be happy to get a professional plumber to help you.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If your hot water heater is gas powered &#8211; you want to then turn off the gas to the water heater.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If your hot water heater is electric &#8211; then you would turn off the circuit breaker to the hot water heater.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Now you can turn off the water to the water heater by turning the red handle usually found at the top of the water heater.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">After The Water Heater Has Been Turned Off<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are replacing the water heater &#8211; it will need to be drained.
