What are polybutylene pipes?
Polybutylene is a plastic that was used in the creation of pipes for water supply from 1978 until 1995. The pipes are normally blue in color (but can be gray or white) and were used extensively throughout the Atlanta area. Unfortunately, the polybutylene plastic reacts poorly to exposure to the oxidants in the public water supply. As a result, the plastic begins to scale and flake and eventually becomes brittle.
